The Kogi State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the sexual abuse of Idowu Anave, a 15 year-old girl who was found homeless on the streets of Lokoja by a good samaritan.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye disclosed the arrest on Sunday while addressing officials of the Ministry at the State Police Headquarters.
CP Dantawaye assured thorough investigations are ongoing and that all perpetrators will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The arrests were made in collaboration with security agencies across various locations in Kogi State, including Obajana, Okene, and Lokoja.
Recall in a now viral video, the minor gave account of the maltreatment and sexual abuse suffered in the hands of her parents and relatives.
Following reports and public outcry, the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, assured the public of justice.
Confirming the arrest, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatima Momoh noted “everyone must play a role in the advocacy for justice and social development. It is important for the public to understand that any sexual relationship with a person under the age of 18 is a criminal offense, punishable under the penal laws of the State.”
The Ministry reiterated commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of abuse and urges the public to support efforts to protect the rights and dignity of children across the state.
