Traditional rulers in Obajana and Oshokoshoko communities in Kogi State have commended recent security operations which flushed out criminals in threatened areas, noting satisfaction with improved security.
The rulers said that their communities are now safer and more peaceful, allowing residents to return to their farms and businesses without fear.
In a joint statement signed by the Bajana of Obajana, Oba Isenibi Idowu and the Obaro of Oshokoshoko, Oba Idowu James Olorunshe, the royal fathers commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for their efforts in restoring peace and stability to the affected communities.
They explained that the recent security operations carried out in forests around the Dangote Cement Factory successfully dislodged criminal elements who had previously used the area as a hideout.
The monarchs also praised the efforts and sacrifices of security agencies, local hunters, and vigilante groups who have played key roles in safeguarding the communities.
According to the statement, “It is with great joy that we, on behalf of the good people of Obajana and Oshokoshoko, express our deep appreciation to the Kogi State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Chief Servant, for the remarkable improvement in the security situation in our communities.”
They recalled that the forests in the area had earlier served as hideouts for bandits who engaged in kidnapping of innocent residents and travellers.
The royal fathers added that some local hunters lost their lives while others sustained injuries during attacks by the criminals while defending their communities.
“We pay glowing tributes to these gallant men who paid the ultimate price in the course of protecting our communities from these miscreants. We also extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and communities,” the statement said.
They further noted that the activities of bandits in the forests had previously created fear among residents and negatively affected the image of the Oshokoshoko–Obajana axis in Lokoja local government area.
The monarchs also recalled an incident in January when suspected bandits attempted to attack the Obajana Divisional Police Station but were successfully repelled by security operatives, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.
According to them, the successful foiling of the attack renewed the confidence of residents in the security agencies and reassured them that their communities are in safe hands under the leadership of Governor Ododo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
They therefore expressed optimism that the sustained security efforts would continue to maintain peace and stability in the area.
