Security operatives in Kogi State have rescued eight passengers who were kidnapped by gunmen along the Okene–Auchi highway.
The incident, which occurred on Monday around 3:48 p.m., was contained in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Wednesday.
According to Makama, about 15 armed men dressed in military camouflage attacked a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Big Joe Ventures Ltd, which was heading to Benin, Edo State, from Abuja.
“The bus had 11 passengers on board.
“During the attack, one female passenger identified as Adesuwat Bright was shot in the left shoulder, while others were taken into the bush by the assailants,” Makama wrote.
Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Okene mobilised his men, including the Police Mobile Force and local vigilantes, who pursued the attackers and engaged them in a gun battle.
Eight passengers were rescued unhurt after the exchange, while the kidnappers fled with two others. The injured victim was taken to CUSTECH Hospital, Okene, for treatment.
Police authorities said a manhunt and bush-combing operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the suspects.
