The Chairman of Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad has told the people to not be afraid of the aircraft hovering over Okene and environs in the last few days.
Muhammad said his attention was drawn to the fear it has created, stating they there was no cause for alarm.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Abdulmumin Abubakar, the Chairman explained that the aircraft belonged to the maritime, and on an Aeromagnetic Survey mission to search for mineral deposits around the central senatorial district of the state.
He noted that the mission was certified by relevant government authorities, and without security risk.
“It is a kind of geophysical prospecting, which makes use of airborne geophysical surviving gauges installed in an aircraft at a certain flight height range to acquire magnetic field strength from the subsurface.
“Therefore, the mission is well certified from relevant government agencies and has no security risk. People should worry not but go about their normal lawful businesses,” he said.
