Mystery Fire Burns Down Kogi Assembly Complex, as Speaker Alleges Threats to Life

The Kogi State House of Assembly Complex has been burnt down on Monday morning by fire, while the members were on public holiday.



ebirareporters.com reports that The hallowed chambers of the complex was razed down by the fire.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Matthew Kolawole addressing journalist after inspecting the complex, stated that his attention was drawn to the incident at about 8am by his Chief Detail Officer, and he called the security agencies to mobilize to the premises.

“We can’t say exactly when it started,” he said.

On whether the incident could be linked to the recent alarm raised by the state government, accusing Dangote Industries Limited of planning to unleash chaos in the state, Kolawole alleged that his life was under threat.

“It might be, it might not be. So I want to leave this to the security agencies. Then definitely I can tell you that I’m being threatened but I believe it’s only God who gives life and it’s only God who takes the life. To me, I’m doing my job as the head of the legislative arm of the government,and I’ll continue to do the best I can do. For now, concerning whether linking this to what happened, I can’t really say but it might be, it might not,” he said.

On the next line of action, the Speaker said he would allow the security agencies carry out their investigations and come out with their reports.

He added that the incident will not revert the decision of the Assembly on any issue, stating that legislative activities will continue.
