Detectives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man, Abubakar Iliyasu, in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman, Mrs. Jane Okoye, which occurred in Orile-Iganmu, Lagos on April 2.
In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was tracked and apprehended in Ankpa, Kogi State by detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.
It was learnt that Iliyasu entered the victim’s residence, attacked her and made away with her Toyota Sienna vehicle and other belongings.
The victim was found unconscious, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
Upon receiving the case, the SCID deployed its team, who arrested the suspect and recovered the vehicle.
Iliyasu is in custody and assisting investigators.
Commissioner of Police, Olohunde Jimoh, reassured residents that justice would be served and reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
“The suspect will be prosecuted at the conclusion of the investigation,” he said.
