Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi state, has signed into law two key revenue bills in line with the Federal Government’s new tax reforms.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo disclosed the development on Thursday.
The laws include the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (Establishment) Law, 2025 and the Kogi State Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025.
President Bola Tinubu signed the new tax laws on July 26, 2025, and they took effect on January 1.
According to the commissioner, “This move is expected to boost state revenue, enhance transparency, and promote economic growth.”
Outlining the key benefits, Fanwo said low-income earners earning below N800,000 annually were exempted from tax. “Simplified tax processes and reduced compliance costs will attract businesses,” he added.
Other benefits, according to the commissioner, included “digitalised tax administration, which will reduce human interference and promote accountability, as well as supporting structural reset, driving harmonisation, and protecting dignity, rather than raising tax obligations.”
Fanwo added that the tax laws were not intended to raise taxes but to support a structural reset, drive harmonisation, and protect dignity while strengthening the social contract.
