Kogi Senators Meet Fashola, Seek Intervention on Federal Roads

The three Senators from Kogi State, Yakubu Oseni (Central), Smart Adeyemi (West), Jibrin Isah Echocho (East), and the House of Representatives member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Leke Abejide yesterday met with the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola on the worrisome state of federal roads across the state.

Ebira Reporters gathered that the National Assembly members appealed for interventions on Ilorin-Egbe – Kabba road, Kabba -Omuo road, Obehira-Ageva-Mangogo-Ibilo road, Okene-Esomi-Auchi road, Okene-Ajaokuta-Itobe road, Abuja-Lokoja-Okene-Auchi road and other federal roads from East and West Senatorial Districts.

Senator Adeyemi lamented that motorists were spending longer hours on journeys, a development that is reducing productivity.

He narrated that there have been slow work ongoing on some of the federal roads that have been awarded, while work has stopped in others.

“We plead that this road be given urgent attention for quick completion, as Kogi is the only neighbourhood road to the FCT and the major gateways between the southern and northern part of Nigeria, ” he said.

On his part, Senator Oseni appealed that the rehabilitation of the roads will boost the economic fortune of the state, and also reduce accidents.

“We have been in pains that the federal highways have remained dilapidated for years and this is a cause for concern. The bad roads also have serious security implications”.

The Minister of Works in his response commended the solidarity of the lawmakers in their demands, noting that some of the roads have already been captured in the 2021 budget.

For urgent intervention, Fashola enjoined them to streamline their respective demands and come up with priority list.
