The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Sunday Karimi, has made good his pledge by donating the sum of N10 million to victims of the November 2024 boat mishap in Kogi state.
Member representing Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency Hon Danladi Aguye also donated the sum of N2m to the victims.
Other donors are Sunday Ehimoni, Haruna Tako, Commissioner of Water Resources, Hon Danladi Farouk, and several others.
According to the Senator, the presentation of the donated sum yesterday in Lokoja was a response to the boat misharp that happened between Ebbe in kupa community in November, 2024.
In his opening remarks, Senator Karimi said the cash donation was meant to cushion the effects of the incident on the victims. Saying, “The donation though not enough to fully compensate the victims, it will go a long way in providing relief and reducing the pains”
Speaking on behalf of the victims, HRH Maiyaki of Kupa, Alh. Pharm Dauda Kabir Isa expresses his appreciations to the donors for their assistance and concerns to the victims, saying the gesture is highly appreciated and won’t be taken for granted. He pray to Almighty Allah to prevent the occurrence of such accidents.
He commended the head of the delegation, Alh. Haruna Isa for his efforts and sincerity of purpose in handling the affairs of Ebbe Boat Mishap assistance and thank all the members of delegation.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Alh. Haruna Isa said, “what the donors gave was a palliative and an an assistance to reduce the pains of the family of the victims and not a full compensation. And I am so grateful to all the donors for their show of love and concern.
He praised the leadership qualities of the Maiyaki of Kupa, HRH Alh Dauda Kabir Isa, and the leader of Lokoja/Kota, Alh. Suleiman Baba Ali for their concern for the people.
Among the major donors are Sen. Karimi N10m, a member House of Reps, Hon Danladi Aguye who donated N2m, Barr. Sunday Ehimoni, Haruna Tako, Commissioner of Water Resources, Danladi Farouk, and several others.
The boat mishap took place when the boat which was heading from Kupa towards Katcha Market capsized near Kpata Danbo in November 2024 and resulted in significant casualties for lives and properties.
