The Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, Thursday, matriculated 4,591 students for the 2025/2026 academic session with a charge to shun vices that are inimical to their studies.

Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Salisu Usman Ogbo, gave the charge while addressing the students at the 33rd matriculation ceremony of the institution held at Lokoja and Itakpe campuses of the institution simultaneously.

The Rector said the matriculating students comprises of 2,460 for National Diploma, (ND) and 2,131 for Higher National Diploma, (HND), spread across seven schools and fifty-seven departments of the Polytechnic.

Ogbo added that the students were admitted into departments in the Schools of Agricultural Technology, Applied Sciences, Art Design and Printing, Engineering, Environmental Technology, Communication and Management Studies.

While congratulating the new students for their admission, the Rector warned that the institution has zero tolerance for all forms of social vices such as cultism, gun-running, examination malpractice, drug abuse, alcoholic addiction, unhealthy social gatherings, cybercrime, incitement to violence, gangsterism, misuse and destruction of public property, stealing, indecent dressing, among others.

“My simple warning is for you to stay away from these vices to avoid running afoul of the law. Any breach will attract appropriate penalty, including outright expulsion and prosecution.

“Ignorance of the law has no place in the Polytechnic and will not be condoned. Let me particularly emphasize on cultism, which is completely forbidden on our campus. You are therefore warned to desist from any form of luring cultist related activities in the institution,” he warned.
