Six Months After, Radio Kogi to Hit Airwaves as Govt Moves to Procure Transmitter

 

About six months after Radio Kogi, also known as Confluence FM went missing on the airwaves due to a faulty transmitter, the state government has finally moved to purchase a replacement with hopes that the state-owned radio station returns to the airwaves soon.

Recall that the station was shut down on August 2nd 2021 due to the break down of transmitter, and without replacement left listeners calling on the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to declare state of emergency on the radio station while describing the continuous shut down of the popular broadcast medium as shameful to the state.

However, ebirareporters.com has received a copy of the statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Gloria Ojochogu, disclosing details of a Tender Board Meeting held in Lokoja.

The Ministry, according to the statement, opened bid for the procurement of transmitters for the radio station.

She explained that the Ministry had invited contractors to bid for the procurement of two 5KW transmitters for Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation.

“The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Mr. P.O Stephen, who presided over the meeting in his office, welcomed all the Directors of the Ministry, The Director General of Radio Kogi, representatives of the Bureau of Public Procurement,Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, SSG’s Office, Due Process and the contractors to the biding.”

She qouted the permanent secretary as saying that the Ministry had to follow due process to see that things were done in the right manner with a call on the contractors to deliver a good job.

“The representative of Hybrid Micro Machines Products Ltd, Engineer Omeh Sebastiane, expressed his joy over how the biding was handled, transparently and promised to cooperate with the Ministry in whatever decision taken.

“Also responding, the General Manager Riverdale Multimedia noted that the biding process was correct and transparent,adding that everything was in order.

“The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry commended the Governor of Kogi State,His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for promptly releasing funds for the purchase of the transmitters and appreciating the contractors for their responses and assured that due process would be followed.

“The Companies that appeared for the bidding were: Data Quest, Ecalpemos Technology, Hybrid Micro Machines Product and Riverdale Multimedia,” the PRO further disclosed.
