Kogi Shuts Down 17 Illegal Tertiary Institutions

The Kogi State Government has shut down 17 Tertiary institutions operating illegally in the state.

The State Commissioner For Education Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones disclosed this during an oversight function of the House of Assembly standing Committee on Education, Science and Technology led by Hon. Idris Aliyu Mekudi.

He explained that, the 17 illegal tertiary institutions before they were shut down were operating in one of the Local Government of the State.

The Commissioner maintained that, all unapproved and illegal tertiary institutions will no longer be allowed to operate without providing the basic requirements to operate.

The Commissioner argued under that, under the new dispensation, the operations of private schools will be reviewed in the State.

“Following the enactment of the education law which gives powers to the Ministry to look at the operations of private schools, the Ministry is going all out to bring sanity to the education sector.

“The Ministry will be placing a closer look at the operations of primary and secondary schools. All eyes would be placed on the monitoring of the primary and secondary schools in the State to deliver on the curriculum” he added.
