The Kogi State Government on Friday warned politicians to desist from continued defacing of public properties with their campaign posters, or risk arrest.
The General Manager of the Signage and Advertising Agency in the state, Mr. Richard Osaseyi gave the warning when he led his team to remove posters at the newly commissioned Ganaja flyover in Lokoja, the state capital.
Osaseyi said the move was part of the mandate of the Agency to check indiscriminate defacing of public places and also to beautify the State.
The General Manager while speaking with newsmen said it is no longer business as usual, as the Agency under his watch is ready to implement the law establishing it in totality.
“Some residents especially politicians have defaced the beauty of Ganaja Flyover with posters, that is why we are here to keep the beauty of the flyover. We are committed to the beautification of Lokoja”
According to him, the exercise was not politically motivated but aimed at ensuring that Public structures and not littered with posters and billboards.
He expressed concern over the rate at which Political Parties have defaced the Ganaja Junction Flyover, pointing out that after removing the posters, the Agency will visit other places in the State Capital to carry out the same exercise.
He added that the law empowers the Agency to arrest anyone that paste posters or erect billboards without approval and urged the people of the State to cooperate with the Agency.
Some residents commended the move, saying it is a welcome development and long overdue.
On his part, Danladi Idris stated that the Agency is doing the right thing as the Activities of the Agency will improve the revenue generation of the State.
Another Resident, Mohammed Sadiq commended the Signage and Advertisement Agency for being proactive in its activities and called on the people of the State especially political parties to give them maximum cooperation.
