The First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Ododo has approved the rehabilitation of indigenes of the state who are suffering from drug abuse and associated mental health conditions requiring institutionalized care.
The approval was announced in a statement by the Director of Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA), Dr. Hope Omeiza, noting that the selected beneficiaries will undergo a three-month comprehensive institutional rehabilitation program at the VGADA Specialist Rehabilitation Centres, Abuja, where structured, evidence-based addiction treatment and mental health services will be provided.
The phased intervention, according to Dr. Omeiza, will cover a total of forty-two (42) beneficiaries.
“Following successful completion of the rehabilitation program, Her Excellency, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, has further approved a post-rehabilitation economic empowerment package for the beneficiaries. This is aimed at supporting sustainable recovery, reintegration, self-reliance, and dignity of life while reducing the risk of relapse.
“This institution based care effort is to compliment the ongoing Community Based Drug Rehabilitation Program across the state,” he explained.
The Director commended the commitment of the the First Lady to mental health care and substance abuse treatment,social integration and recovery-focused interventions; and sustainable empowerment of vulnerable persons across Kogi State
Dr. Omeiza added that “further implementation details and updates will be communicated as the program unfolds. Thank you for your continued dedication to service, advocacy, and community development across Kogi State.”
