Kogi Assembly Speaker Assures of Commitment to Legislations for Development

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has promised to encourage and evolve legislations that would enhance the development of the state.

He stated this while leading the debate to discuss the Kogi State University, Kabba, establishment bill which was transmitted to the House by the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello in a letter in which he sought the house gives the matter accelerated hearing and passage.

The speaker noted that Governor Bello has shown commitment to developing all sectors of the state through equitable distribution of resources as indicated in the bill, especially the education sector.

Rt. Hon Umar said establishment of the university will provide the three senatorial districts with state universities, noting that it would also attract other social and economic development to the area where it would be sighted and the state in general.

Members, including the majority leader and other state legislators spoke on the the bill and lauded the Governor for his decision to sight the institution in Kabba, Kogi West.

Also debated on the floor of the house was a Bill to Repeal and Re-Enact a Bill on the Prohibition of Kidnapping and Other Related Issues and Matters Connecter Thereto, 2023.

The House also received a letter nominating a replacement for the recently sacked Commissioner for Agriculture in the State for screening and the nominee has been directed to appear before the House on Wednesday, 21st June, 2023 for assessment by the legislators.
