A yet-to-be identified gunmen reportedly vandalised and set some shops on fire, burning them to ashes at Odu-Ogboyaga in Dekina LGA of Kogi State.
City & Crime gathered that the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday at Odu Ward 1 in the community.
The locals said the inferno from the burning shops and the screaming of the residents woke them up in the middle of the night.
“Alarm from that area of the village woke many of us only to see the shops engulfed with fire. We watched helplessly as there was no water or any other anti- combustion material to put out the fire.
“The hooligans came to town when the villagers were already asleep, set the shops ablaze and left shortly without any of them being apprehended,” Ikani Yakubu, a resident of the village, said.
According to owner of one of the affected shops, Alidu Nasir (Engineer Nas), the gunmen raided his shop, looted all the valuable materials and set it on fire.
‘’Some people have been threatening to do that few days back. Early morning on Sunday, they struck and burnt down my shop. I have reported the incident to the police authorities in my area,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, did not respond to text message and call put across to him on the incident.
