The people of Ejule community in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State have raised the alarm over the alleged abduction of 10 passengers along the Aloma–Ejule Road.
The passengers were reportedly abducted after gunmen ambushed them on the highway on Monday.
The victims were occupants of three vehicles, a Siena bus, a Honda Accord, and a jeep.
The incident occurred at about 5:00 p.m. when the gunmen stormed the highway and mounted barricades. The first three vehicles that ran into the barricade were seized, with all 10 occupants taken into the kidnappers’ custody.
The vehicles were said to be travelling from Ejule in Ofu LGA, Kogi State, to Enugu State.
Four of the victims were in the Siena bus, three in the Honda Accord, while the jeep had three passengers.
Other occupants who escaped abduction sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical attention at the Comprehensive Hospital in Aloma.
It was gathered that a joint team of the Nigerian Army, vigilante operatives, and the police is currently trailing the kidnappers.
Concerned residents have called on the Kogi State Government to urgently deploy the surveillance drones recently acquired by the state to track the criminals and rescue the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain a reaction from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, were not answered.
