Customs Impounds N92.5m Contraband in Kwara, Kogi

The Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) North Central Zone, Sector 3 Ilorin, Kwara State Capital of the Customs Service,says it seized contraband, worth N92, 547,752.00.

The coordinator for the border patrol team, sector 3,Compt. Olugbeyega Peters, who took journalists round of the Sector 3 commands of the service on Wednesday in Ilorin,said the seizures were in fulfilment of the Customs and Excise Management Act Cap C45 LFN 2004 (CEMA) as amended to guide the operations of the team.

He said the team had conducted duties with professionalism and efficiency, adding that the seizures, which covered April and August, include compromised 650 bags of 60 liters with each of the diesel concealed with sawdust.

Giving down the breakdown of the intercepted items at the command, Peters said “82 seizures of different items include- 650 Sacks of 60liters each of Diesel (39,000 liters), 1,735 Bags of foreign parboiled Rice of 50Kg each, 1,415 Jeri cans of 25 liters of Petroleum Products each (36,525 liters), 33 Used Vehicles, 12 Bales of worn clothing, 10 Motorcycles”.

Cpt Peters,who said that Duty Paid Value on the seized goods under the command worthN92.5m, expressed gratitude to the customs officials for thier moral and logistical approaches to their duty.

He promised that the Sector would continue to be at the forefront of anti- smuggling activities and would not relent on its oars to make the smuggling activities unattractive to the teeming youth.
