Two aspirants jostling for the Kogi East Senate ticket of the People’s Democratic Party, Aminu Suleiman Abubakar and Ubolo Okpanachi were not cleared by the party’s National Assembly Screening Committee for various improprieties.
The result of the screening was made public in Lokoja yesterday, and only two aspirants were cleared to head to the primary.
The cleared aspirants are Victor Adoji and Isaac Alfa.
According to the results, Aminu Suleiman Abubakar was not cleared because he was not known to be a registered voter in Kogi East.
While Ubolo Okpanachi was not cleared because of his involvement in anti-party activities and plethora of other petitions challenging his legibility to contest.
Meanwhile, for Kogi Central, it does appear that the major contenders for the party’s ticket are Ahmed Ogembe and Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, both cleared by the committee.
Ogembe who is a former Senator and the candidate of the party in 2019, lost to Yakubu Oseni of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
In the party’s primary scheduled for next month, he would be facing Akpoti who recently decamped from the Social Democratic Party.
In Kogi West, the major contenders are former Senator Dino Melaye and the Reps Member Representing Kabba-Bunu Federal Constituency, Tajudeen Yusuf.
