Suspected political thugs on Saturday attacked the joint campaign team of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gegu-Beki, Kogi Local Government Area, destroying several vehicles and campaign materials.
The attack targeted the campaign convoy of Musa Ahmadu, the ADC candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District, and Quincy Ahmed, candidate for the Lokoja/Koton-Karfe Federal Constituency, during a joint voter-mobilization rally.
Witnesses reported that the assailants turned up in large numbers and set upon the convoy. While no lives were lost, several party supporters sustained injuries during the violence.
Reacting to the incident, the Kogi State Chairman of the ADC, Tom Zakari, condemned the assault and linked the perpetrators to a rival political figure in the area.
“We condemn the attack on the ADC Kogi West senatorial candidate and Lokoja Federal Constituency candidate, during which their campaign vehicles and materials were destroyed on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, at Gegu-Beki in Koton-Karfe LGA,” Zakari said.
Zakari called on the Kogi State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident and curtail political violence in the state, adding that the party would pursue legal action. He also urged party members to remain peaceful and avoid reprisal attacks.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, were unsuccessful as phone calls and messages went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
