Appeal Court to Begin Hearing on Ohinoyi of Ebiraland Stool

Ohinoyi of Ebira

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has scheduled Wednesday March 4th to begin hearing on the appeal filed by the Governor of Kogi State against the February 2025 Kogi State High Court judgment which sacked HRM Ahmed Muhammad Tijani Anaje from office as Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

Recall that Justice Salisu Umar, the Presiding Judge of High Court 6 in Lokoja ordered HRM Anaje to stop parading himself as the paramount ruler of the Ebira people.

The case with the Suit Number HCO/05C/2024, was filed by Dr. Barnabas Adeku Ojiah and two other plaintiffs against the Governor of Kogi State, challenging the process allegedly rigged by irregularities from which Anaje assumed the throne.

The three plaintiffs had pleaded with the court to make a declaration that the procedure adopted in appointing the 3rd Defendant to the throne of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland was wrongful, unlawful.

They also argued that the process was contrary to Procedure of Ascension to the Throne of Ohinoyi of Ebira Land, Edict No 3 of 1997 guiding the appointment of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

Anaja was appointed as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland by former Governor Yahaya Bello in January 2024.

Following the judgment, the Kogi State Government immediately approached the appeal court to challenge the decision of the lower court.
