The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in Kogi Specialist Hospital (KSSH), Lokoja, has commended Governor Ahmed Ododo for the implementation of N300,000 monthly allowance for medical doctors working in state-owned hospitals.
The ARD-KSSH President, Dr David Omeiza, in a statement on Tuesday in Lokoja, congratulated the governor on his second anniversary, lauding his efforts to improve the state’s healthcare sector.
He commended the governor’s implementation of the Doctors’ Interventional Allowance.
He noted that the allowance aims to retain medical practitioners and attract skilled professionals to the state health system.
According to ARD, the allowance, which took effect in October 2025, has already shown positive results, with improved patient care, operational efficiencies, and public health response in state-owned hospitals.
The ARD urged the governor to continue his visionary commitment to healthcare development, citing opportunities for growth and enhancement.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with government for healthcare excellence.
“The ARD looks forward to continued partnership with the Kogi State Government to establish the state as a healthcare hub,” the ARD stated.
In October 2025, Ododo approved a monthly allowance of N300,000 for medical doctors working in state-owned hospitals, particularly those in rural areas, to curb the “Japa syndrome” (brain drain) and improve healthcare services.
This allowance is part of the state’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery, alongside initiatives like health insurance for 76,000 beneficiaries, including local government civil servants, pensioners, and students.
