DAM Foundation Flags-Off Mega Empowerment, Outreach in Kogi

The Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha Foundation, a Non-governmental organization using sports to promote youth development and empowerment has flagged-off a mega empowerment and outreach program in Kogi State.

The one-week long program was officially flagged of on Monday by the Governor of the state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo,

Speaking at the flag-off in Okene, Governor Ododo commended Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha for being thoughtfully genuine with initiatives that will empower the youths of the state, and help curtail criminal tendencies.

The Governor called on other citizens of the estate to emulate DAM Foundation to support the government in both human capacity and infrastructural development.

The DAM Foundation empowerment and outreach program designed to promote youth development and economic empowerment across communities,placed strong emphasis on ICT training and artisan skill acquisition, enabling young people to gain practical knowledge to enhance employability and self-reliance.

Participants in the ICT programme benefited from hands-on training and received laptops and other digital tools to enhance their learning and productivity. Artisan trainees were supported with essential equipment for carpentry, bricklaying, and automobile repair, helping them to establish or expand their trades.

In addition, the programme distributed a wide range of empowerment items, including solar kits, smart home solar systems, solar TVs, solar fans, and solar lights to promote access to clean and reliable energy. Beneficiaries also received bags of rice, beans, provisions and ingredients while market women and Okada riders were supported with cash and gadgets to strengthen their businesses and improve livelihoods.

The Chairman of Dam Foundation, who doubles as Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha noted his long-standing dream of giving back to the community, especially through sports and recreational activities.

He further highlighted the importance of public–private collaboration in driving youth empowerment, renewable energy adoption, sustainable grassroots and community development.

According to the Chairman, the event will be capped by a basketball competition, with top Nigerian celebrities like Davido, Odumodublack, Ice Prince amongst others expected to grace the event in Okene.
