Kogi Moves to Generate Own Electricity 

Kogi state government has announced its decision to leverage on its abundant natural resource and begin generation and distribution of electricity.

Addressing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting in Lokoja on Tuesday, the State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo said with her water mass, solar potentials and massive coal deposits, Kogi has all it takes to generate and distribute power.

He stated that state executive council chaired by Governor Usman Ododo approved the establishment of Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Agency.

Fanwo added that approvals were also given for modalities to make Kogi state play a big role in minerals exploration in line with the Federal Government policies on solid minerals mining and processing.

“This is aimed at taking advantage of the many mineral deposits in the state including Lithium, Gold and others.,” he said.

The Executive Council also approved the establishment of the Kogi State Information Technology Development Agency as well an agency to be responsible for commodity exchange and export promotion.

This, Fanwo said, is aimed at adding value to agricultural products from the state.

He added that Governor Ododo announced that the Senior Special Assistants and Ward Special Assistants to be appointed by his administration must stay permanently with their people at the grassroots.
