An early morning fire has razed goods and properties worth millions of Naira at a large part of Kabba Central Market in Kogi State.
The fire started around 5am and rapidly spread through the market’s vibrant stalls and shops.
Shops and stalls fell prey to the destructive fire, leaving traders and residents in shock and sorrow as the flames consumed numerous businesses and sources of livelihood.
Sympathizers rushed to the scene to combat the inferno and prevent further spread, but despite their efforts, the intensity of the inferno made containment very difficult.
Eyewitnesses said shop owners were helpless as they watched their goods and wares succumb to the flames. The market, known for its diverse array of goods, from fresh farm produce to textiles and electronics, now stands in ruins.
Investigations into the cause of the fire were ongoing, with authorities working to determine whether it was a result of electrical fault, negligence, or any other factor.
Meanwhile, Kabba residents have faulted the absence of fire fighting equipment in the market that would have been helpful in putting out the flames.
