Former Senator, Dino Melaye has said that his political rival and former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has not sought for his forgiveness over past transgressions.
Melaye stated this while responding to questions on Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, adding that Bello is currently on trial for offending the people of Kogi State.
Melaye denied ever being friends with Bello, even though they were in the same party at some point.
“It is abominable for you to call Yahaya Bello my friend, because darkness and light don’t concur. We are on two parallel grounds. He has never been my friend. We know each other but he is not my friend,” he said.
When asked if as a Christian, he has forgiven him, Melaye said Bello should seek forgiveness from God.
“Has he asked me for forgiveness? Let him ask. It’s only when it happens that I will know. He offended the people of Kogi State, not me, and that is why he is on that trial,” he added.
Speaking further on the tendency of Kogi West to produce the next Governor in the state, Melaye said it is fair that an Okun person is allowed to assume the position in the next governorship election.
“Your calculation was wrong because when we were in Kwara, Adamu Atta from the central was the Governor of Kwara state. The central senatorial district has five local government. The West has seven local government, while the east has nine local government. This other flank has been Governor between sixteen and seventeen years in the east.
“The central they’ve been Governor now running to twelve years with Ododo. So it is only just, fair and proper for somebody of the West senatorial district to come as Governor. And they cannot cow us, but when we get to that bridge, we will cross it.”
