Why We Shut Down Specialist Hospital – Kogi Govt

The Kogi State Government has given explanations to why services at the State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja were shut down.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu in a statement on Saturday said the temporary suspension of services at the hospital is to allow for an ongoing “remodeling, renovation and reconstruction of the hospital.

“There will be construction of a new office complex accompanied with total remodelling and renovation of old existing structures, as well as construction of a Psychiatric Center within Lokoja Metropolis (under the Administration of the KGSSHL) which will be the first of its kind in Kogi State.”

He stated that the work would be completed in about four weeks, urging for patience from the people of the state.

“People should find solace in the fact that on resumption of service, Kogi State Specialist Hospital Lokoja will be a better and greatly upgraded version of its old self to accommodate more and improved health care services to the satisfaction of all.

“The Federal Medical Center Lokoja and other peripheral Hospitals will double their efforts to cater for patients and ensure nobody is denied access to health services throughout the period,” he added.
