The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has debunked reports that its candidate in the November 11 Kogi governorship election, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, has withdrawn his case from the election petition tribunal challenging the outcome of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Ahmed Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election after scoring the highest votes to defeat other contestants.

But reacting to the news that SDP has conceded defeat and will no longer be challenging APC victory in court, the Director, New Media, Muri/Sam Campaign Council/SDP, Isaiah Davies Ijele, described the information as fake and should be disregarded by supporters of the party.

Ijele, who made his position known in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, disclosed that those spreading the information are speaking out of delusional rage or hallucinogenic depression.

The statement reads, “This is to inform our teaming supporters that Murtala Ajaka and the Social Democratic Party will not succumb to any pressure to stand down the case at the tribunal.

“Our team of solicitors are up to their game and only waiting for the commencement of the court sitting within the window as provided by law for fillings and counter fillings, etc.

“We urge our party faithful and supporters of Alhaji Murtala Ajaka to disregard such fake rumors from failed politicians who could not prove their capacities and love for humanity when in power.”
