Ward Congresses: Kogi PDP Adopts Concensus

The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Mr Bode Ogunmola has disclosed that the party would adopt concensus method of electing its representatives in the Saturday Ward Congress across the 21 Local Government Areas and 239 wards of the state.

Ogunmola speaking in an interview on Friday, stated that the decision was to ensure peaceful election of representatives in the state.

He described Ward Congress as being grassroots in nature and the foundation upon which other elections were held, adding that the party in its wisdom, decided to elect its representives based on agreement of its members “because we don’t want to offence ourselves”.

Ogunmola expressed optimism that the decision of the party in the exercise would translate into a peaceful poll.

According to the party’s image maker, the leadership of the party have done 99 per cent of work to ensure a tranqil election, pointing out that “we are not envisaging trouble from any quarters in tomorrow election in kogi state.”

He, however, stated that the party had written to the police, State Security Service (SSS) and other security outfits in the state about the election, to boost security during and after the exercise.

On women participation in the exercise, Ogunmola said that the leadership of the party had done everything possible to make sure that more women participate in the ward congresses.

“In most of the wards, there is this enthusiasm to specifically elect women in the exercise as a way of making sure that they are carried along in the party and in view of their role in politics.

“There are some specific places where we plead that women should be carried along, because this election is about the youth and women who form the bulk of people that go to vote in an election,” he said.
