The paramount ruler of the Okun people in Kogi State, the Obaro of Kabba, HRM Oba Solomon Oladele Owoniyi has appealed to the government of Kogi State to restore Radio Kogi back on-air.
The Monarch made the appeal in Kabba when he received the Challenge Parenthood Initiative organization in Kabba for a sensitization on enhancing demand and uptake of COVID-19 vaccine in the state.
Oba Awoniyi stated that it was important for the radio to be restored in time for the 2023 general elections.
This, he said, will enable the people be informed about the happenings in their environment and also make wise choices on who to elect in the next democratic dispensation.
ebirareporters.com reports that the state owned radio has been off-air for about two years due to a faulty transmitter.
Despite several promises by the state government, no intervention has been made, and the return of the radio before the expiration of the Yahaya Bello led administration cannot be predicted.
However, Oba Awoniyi also urged the people to avoid fraudulent politicians who want to destroy the country before, during and after the 2023 general election.
The monarch said the 2023 general election will be a litmus test for the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to prove to the whole world that Nigeria’s democracy has grown from what it used to be.
He warned electorates to avoid selling their votes to fraudulent politicians, adding that, they should vote their conscience, and ensure that any leader elected will bring development to the people.
Earlier in her remarks, the Executive Director, Challenged Parenthood Initiative, (CPI) Eunice Abimbola Agbogun said the Kogi State government have made a great stride towards protecting citizens of the state from the effect of coronavirus.
She said while there have been imperative achievements in the COVID-19 vaccination exercise, the process is not immune to challenges, new and emerging trends.
