Political activist, Usman Austin Okai has emerged the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in yesterday’s primary elections for the Dekina/Bassa House of Representatives seat.
Okai who polled 28 votes out of the 68 accredited delegate votes, defeated a former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Omebije who scored 16 votes, a former House Leader, Simon Atadoga with 11 votes, and a former House of Reps Member, Samson Ihabe who polled 5 votes.
Dr Samuel Agagwu who polled 2, had the least votes,
In a statement he shared, Okai declared a “no victor no vanquish,” appealing to the aspirants to rise above the outcome of the primary.
He said: “I am not oblivious of the intrigues and bottlenecks, associated with primary elections. However, I wish to humbly appeal to my Leaders and Uncles, that collectively, we should rise above the outcome of this primary and focus on the goal, which is to give the good people of Dekina/Bassa, the needed voice and representation at the National Assembly.
“In-line with the mantra “No victor; No vanquish”, I wish to be magnanimous in victory, as today’s is not a victory for Usman Okai Austin Cca but a victory for our people. I did not win; we won!
“We look with hope to the general elections, trusting God as always, to give our people the voice, they’ve always yearned for.
“Thank you all for believing in this course. God bless you richly.”
