The Management of the Federal Polytechnic Idah, Kogi State (FPI), has said that the institution has stamped out cultism and kidnapping via proactive measures five years ago.
The Rector of the institution, Dr Danjuma David Baba, disclosed this Idah on Thursday while marking the first inaugural lecture of the institution since its establishment 45 years ago.
FPI was one of the institutions in Kogi with notoriety for cultism.
He said, “In the last five years there have not been cases of cultism and kidnapping on the campus. We achieved this feat through proactive measures and having our ears to the ground, including using other devices I’m not ready to disclose.
“In the last of such attempts by a cultist group, we nipped it in the bud, and since then, they have relocated from the institution.”
He added that after frantic efforts they overcame the teething challenges, all the 46 courses being run in the institution have been fully accredited by the organ responsible for it, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Highlight of the day was the maiden inaugural lecture of the institution with the title: “Sociolinguistic Exploration of Codes and Writing Techniques in Federal Tertiary Institutions in Kogi”, which was delivered by Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Sifawa, the 11th council chairman of the institution.
