Ahead of the National Sports Festival, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has received the Torch of Unity, presented by a delegation from the National Sports Commission.
The 2025 National Sports Festival has been scheduled to hold in Ogun State from May 16 to May 30th, 2025.
Governor Ododo receiving the torch through his deputy, Mr. Joel Salifu emphasized that this festival would undeniably unite the entire nation in love and harmony, further solidifying our national cohesion amidst our diverse backgrounds.
He also stressed that his administration has shown dedication to creating a conducive environment for sports development in the state, assuring that the State Government would continue to build upon the current achievements.
In his words “On behalf of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo FCA, the Chief Servant of Kogi State, I extend a warm welcome to you all to the confluence of opportunities for the presentation of the touch of unity. Kogi is privileged to host this powerful delegation in anticipation of the upcoming National Sports Festival scheduled to be held in Ogun State”
” This touch of unity undoubtedly symbolizes our shared aspirations and collective identity, and it is with great honor that I receive it today on behalf of the people’s governor.” He said
The Torch of Unity movement represents the spirit of unity, peace, and sporting excellence that defines the National Sports Festival. As the torch begins its journey across the country, it embodies the anticipation and excitement building up to the festival.
Also speaking, the Team Lead from the National Sports commission, Mrs Ikana Mbora thanked Kogi State Government for a befitting reception accorded and promised adequate security during the programme.
The National Sports Festival, tagged the “Gateway Games,” promises to be an exhilarating experience, featuring a wide range of sports, including football, volleyball, basketball, and more. With thousands of athletes from various states participating, the festival is expected to showcase the best of Nigerian sports talent.
As the Deputy Governor received the Torch of Unity, he reaffirmed Governor Ododo’s commitment to supporting sports development and providing an enabling environment for athletes to thrive.
