FG Assures of Repair Works on Lokoja-Abuja Road after Flood Recedes

The Federal Government has noted its intention to repair parts of the Lokoja-Abuja road which may have been damaged by the flood in Kogi State.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Raji Fashola disclosed this at the Federal Executive Council meeting, stating that his team will swing into action as soon as the flood recedes.

Fashola assured Nigerians plying the road that his ministry will assess the extent of damage on the road caused by the flood and find ways to carry out repairs before the festive season.

The Federal Government has approved investment and construction in an aircraft maintenance facility to be located at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

“Just like in any situation of extreme weather condition, travel logistics are hampered, so some of the roads are difficult to traverse; it has caused some backlogs in logistics movement, we are seeing already some disruptions in supply chain like fuel and some other things, but we hope that when the water fully recedes, we will see the full extent of damage.

“We are already planning out ember months movement which we do in the last quarter of the year, so that will take into consideration any damage that has been done; and we will try and remedy as much of it as resources and time allow, so that we prepare for that heavy movement period of the festive season,” he said.

Recall that the flood in Kogi state, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) affected the distribution of petroleum products to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and environs as vehicular movements were grounded.

NMDPRA in its statement noted that as part of measures to mitigate the situation, trucking via alternative routes was currently ongoing.

The authority assured the public that there are sufficient petroleum products inland. Consequently, the general public was advised to avoid panic buying at fuel stations, even as the NMDPRA said it is working assiduously with relevant stakeholders and government agencies to ensure product availability across the country.
