A lecturer with Kogi State University, Dr. Peter Nelson has earned the admiration of Nigerians after displaying uncommon honesty and integrity by returning the sum of five million, eight hundred and fifty thousand naira erroneously sent to his account.
The sum was reportedly sent by one Alhassan Abdullahi, prompting Nelson to contact his bank to verify the source of the transaction.
Finding out that it was a transactional error, he wrote his bank manager, giving consent for a reversal of the money to the sender.
He wrote: “I have refunded the sum of 5.850 millions that was mistakenly sent to me by Alhassan Abdullahi Emma Venture in Mubi, Adamawa state through my UBA account after contacting my bank and the details of the transaction was revealed to me.
“I grow to understand that no matter how easy things may look, I shouldn’t take what doesn’t belong to me,” he said.
Nigerians have taken turn to praise the gesture, which they described as exemplary.
