Kogi Govt Commissions Secondary School Named after Yahaya Bello

GYB Model School

The Kogi State Government on Monday commissioned the GYB Model Secondary School Nagazi, in Adavi Local Government Area of the state.

The GYB Model Secondary School is named after the immediate past Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, and commissioned by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.

In his speech, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo noted the event as a reflection of a deliberate choice to build enduring values in the lives of young people for the progress of the state.

He stated his administration’s prioritization of education as a central pillar of its development agenda through improved funding, clear policy direction, and strategic investment across all levels of education.

Governor Ododo said access to quality education in the state has expanded through the establishment and replication of model schools alongside the rehabilitation of existing institutions..

“This school forms part of a broader, well-structured vision to transform education across Kogi State. The Mega School concept is being implemented in strategic locations to ensure that every child, regardless of community, has access to quality education within a modern and inspiring environment. What we are commissioning today represents a key component of a comprehensive and deliberate statewide transformation strategy,” he said.

The Mega school initiative, according to the Governor, is intentional and strategic, designed to bridge access gaps while delivering high-quality education within modern and well-equipped environments. Through this model, we are promoting uniform standards, equity, and consistency in learning outcomes across the state.

“The GYB Model Secondary School, Nagazi, reflects this vision in both structure and purpose. The school provides a fully equipped academic environment comprising eighteen classrooms with three arms each, a well-resourced library, a functional staff room, and a spacious examination hall. It also includes modern science laboratories, a fully equipped ICT laboratory, and a three hundred and twenty-six capacity Computer-Based Test centre aligned with global standards.

“The school further provides standard sports facilities that support physical development, modern Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene facilities that promote health and wellbeing, and a fully secured and fenced environment that ensures safety. It currently accommodates over one thousand seven hundred students within a dignified and beautiful learning environment,” he stated.

Governor Ododo hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration, he said has demonstrated courage, clarity, and commitment in laying the foundation for sustainable growth and national prosperity.

Also, he eulogized his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, for laying a solid foundation for education in the state.

“He started the Mega Schools Initiative and in line with our promise of consolidation, we are taking it further today. May Allah reward your service to our dear state,” he said.
