The pioneer President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Kogi State, Justice Samuel Kehinde Otta Rtd has died, throwing the state into grief and mourning.
Late Justice Otta died on Saturday in Abuja following a brief illness, the current President, Justice Momohjimoh Usman announced.
In the statement announcing the demise and signed by the Registrar, Safiya Aliyu, Justice Usman described the deceased as distinguished jurist and an accomplished pioneer whose visionary leadership laid the foundation for the establishment and growth of the Customary Court of Appeal in Kogi State.
“Throughout his illustrious career on the bench, he served with remarkable dedication, integrity, wisdom and an unwavering commitment to the cause of justice.
“His passing is a profound loss not only to Kogi State Judiciary but the Judiciary of Nigeria, the legal community and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
“His legacy of service, humility and commitment to the administration of justice will remain indelible in the annals of the Kogi State Judiciary.
“We pray that Almighty God, in His infinite mercy, will forgive his shortcomings, grant his gentle soul eternal rest, and grant the family he left behind, the Kogi State Judiciary and all who mourn him the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement read.
The court said further details regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
