The candidate of Accord in the forthcoming Kogi gubernatorial election, Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman (Rtd), has called upon the state’s All Progressives Congress led by Governor Yahaya Bello, to provide a detailed account of how they have utilized the 13 percent derivation funds received from the Federal Government over the past eight months.
In a statement conveyed through the youth spokesperson of his campaign, Comrade Samuel A Danjuma, Jibrin said “the call for transparency and accountability underscores the importance of informing the people of Kogi State about the use of these funds, which are intended for the state’s development.”
Expressing his commitment to transparency and good governance, the ex-Naval chief emphasizes the citizens’ right to be informed about their elected leaders’ stewardship. He highlights the necessity for a comprehensive report on fund allocation and utilization under Bello’s leadership, especially given recent challenges in the oil-producing region of the state caused by flooding, “which underscores the urgency of addressing local issues through social infrastructure and youth empowerment.”
The statement further noted that “this call for accountability aligns with Accord’s vision of using public funds judiciously to address critical concerns like infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and job creation.” Danjuma adds that “their mission is to create a brighter future for Kogi State, emphasizing the importance of holding leaders accountable.”
“Jibrin and Accord remain dedicated to their vision of bringing positive change and progress to Kogi State, guided by principles of transparency, inclusivity, and the genuine empowerment of the state’s residents,” he said.
