The Kogi State Government has suspended two secondary school principals for alleged extortion and misconduct.
The State Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, disclosed this to journalists on Monday.
The Commissioner noted that some school principals and head teachers are under investigation for the same offences.
Jones, who did not reveal the identities of the principals, said one is from Kogi Central, while the other is from Kogi West.
According to him: “The 30 per cent budgetary allocation to the education sector is still in place. Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, is thinking of increasing it due to the importance attached to the sector.”
He explained that while efforts are being made to revamp primary school education in the state, the government is also planning to pay National Examination Council, NECO, fees in public schools.
Jones, who reiterated the commitment of the present administration in resuscitating technical education in the state, commended the governor for consolidating the achievements of the previous administration.
He added that all programmes in the state-owned tertiary institutions have been duly accredited, stressing that government will continue to give priority to the education sector.
