To cushion the effect of the economic hardship, business mogul, Dr. Khalifa Abdulrahaman Okene on Wednesday commenced the empowerment of no fewer than 1,000 women in the central senatorial district of Kogi State.
The beneficiaries drawn from across the wards of the five local governments in the district, went home with bags of rice and cash.
While the programme started from Adavi and Okehi Local Government Areas, it continued in Okene, Ogori-Magongo and concluded in Ajaokuta Local Government Areas simultaneously.
He noted that the economic period called for support from well-meaning Nigerians, explaining that the economic toll could be more harsh if left for the government alone.
He further urged the people to be law-abiding, supportive of themselves and resist the temptation of indulging in crime as a means of survival.
More so, Dr. Okene called on the people to turn out en-masse for the November 11th governorship election in the state, and vote for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, whom he pitched as a better representation of Kogi agenda.
He also enjoined the people to shun electoral violence and go about the electoral process peacefully.
