The Nigeria Police Force has revealed that the policemen seen in a video with the Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, Joseph Omuya Salami during the general elections in Kogi State, have been punished.
The video which went viral, showed Mr. Salami in company of Police escorts destroying polling materials.
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), had also written to the police and the INEC to probe the video of Salami’s activities on the election day.
However, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a tweet stated why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and not the police is saddled with prosecuting the council Chairman.
According to the Force spokesman, the policemen in the video have been dealt with, and assured all cases involving policemen across the country would be made public.
He said, ‘this kogi case is one of the cases that will be prosecuted by INEC, while the policemen in charge have been dealt with. I will compile all the cases involving policemen and share. Though many will still not believe us, we will be transparent and do the needful on these cases. Ire.”
