Governor Yahaya Bello has denied the reports of an assassination attempt on him by men claded in military uniforms along the Lokoja-Abuja expressway.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo had put out a press statement announcing the reported attempt.
The statement later found to be concocted by Fanwo who was not on the trip with the Governor, was said to be inspired by political motivations.
Governor Yahaya Bello, in a press briefing on Sunday evening, personally denied the reports.
“My convoy, especially the security, had an encounter with another sister agency, and there was a fracas. Immediately, we waded in and it was resolved. From there we had a smooth journey down to Abuja.
“Ever since I came, I have been engaging in all the activities that brought me to Abuja and it’s been very smooth. Thereafter, I began to hear in the social media about assassination attempt.
“I want to state categorically very clear, there was no assassination attempt on me, Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, by the military or anybody,” he said.
Bello said the KOGI-FCT highway is a secure route owing to the commitment of his government and security agencies, “so nobody would have attempted to assassinate me.
“You are not doing me any favour by putting the fake news out there that Governor Yahaya Bello escaped assassination when there was nothing of that nature. I don’t need to be given any bad publicity whatsoever.”
The governor said it was normal for security agencies to have fracas, and called for investigation and disciplinary measures against the unruly officers.
