The last of Nigeria football stars and celebrities to visit and endorse Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State may not have been seen, as the Governor on Monday played host to Super Eagles striker, Odion Jude Ighalo.
Ighalo’s visit followed that of Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho who had paid similar visit barely four days ago.
The courtesy calls which are not unconnected to the Governor’s presidential ambition in 2023, also had Mikel Obi visiting the Governor about a week ago.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onogwu Muhammed who was at the meeting between the Governor and Ighalo, reported that Ighalo described Bello as a bridge builder whose leadership style is a source of hope to the Nigerian youth.
“He commended the Governor for recognising the efforts, contributions, patriotism of the Ex-Super Eagles players by organising a world class reception for them in Lokoja in March, 2021.
“He said such recognitions and honour remained the biggest inspiration to the young athletes who want to represent Nigeria at any level,” Muhammed said.
The courtesy calls on the Governor in his Abuja residence may have become one too many, even as reactions from Nigerians are critical of the August visitors.
It has been from the Ex-Super Eagles players, Nollywood stars, former Big Brother housemates, and other celebrities through to Ighalo, leaving onlookers with the task of predicting the next visitor.
