The Kogi State office of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has trained twenty-six unemployed graduates in environmental beautification as part of its employment generation drive.
The trainees were empowered with skills in beautification of the environment, P. O. P. (Plaster of Paris), soft and hard landscaping under the environmental Beautification training scheme of the Special Public Works (SPW) department of the NDE.
The Director General of NDE, Abubakar Fikpo, represented by the state Coordinator, Mr. Ibidun Abiodun Amos, said the NDE would continue to train and support the unemployed to acquire vocational skills and become self-dependent.
He expressed hope that the trainees would train other job-seekers to make a decent living.
Amos, who presented the resettlement tools to the participants, urged them to venture into businesses of their own to enable them to practice the skills they have learned during the vocational training.
The State Coordinator however appealed to the participants to train other youths in the same vocation to actualize the vision of the NDE, which is Job Creation for all.
The Director of SPW in NDE headquarters, Mrs. Olaomi Roseline Sylvia, who was also represented at the event by a senior official in the department, Mrs Jenny Usuwa, called on the beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme to count themselves lucky to be part of the ‘Life-time achievement’ from the NDE job opportunities.
According to her, “Many were called but few were chosen. I therefore urged the lucky beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment to create jobs for themselves and others,” Mrs. Usuwa, advised the trainees.
A representative of the Kogi State government, Chugudo Musa, charged the beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme to reciprocate the good gesture of the federal government by repaying the loans without failure in order to avail other Nigerians the opportunity to benefit from the empowerment scheme of the federal government.
The head of SPW in the state office of NDE, Mr. Tosin Ajibade, in a welcome address, thanked the NDE management for the unrelenting efforts towards fighting unemployment in the country.
Mr. Lawal Kareem, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, expressed delight with the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he described the scheme as a laudable programme.
