Ododo Renames Kogi Specialist Hospital After Late Former Governor Ibrahim Idris

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has renamed the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, after former Governor Ibrahim Idris in recognition of his service and contributions to the state’s institutional development.

The facility will henceforth be known as the Ibrahim Idris Specialist Hospital.

Governor Ododo announced the decision on Thursday, October 29, 2026, during the 40th-day fidau prayer for the repose of the late politician’s soul in his hometown of Abejukolo, Omala Local Government Area.

Addressing religious leaders, political figures, and community stakeholders, Ododo stated that renaming the health facility forms part of executive measures to preserve the memory and legacies of leaders who worked to build public institutions in Kogi State.

He described the late former governor, who governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, as a detribalized elder statesman, entrepreneur, and bridge-builder whose tenure laid foundations for administrative growth.

“Division destroys, but unity builds. As Kogites, we must rise above our differences and recognise that our greatest strength lies in our shared identity and common destiny,” Ododo said, urging residents to cultivate unity across ethnic and political lines.

The governor offered prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul and extended condolences to the family, the Igala Kingdom, and the people of Omala Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Haruna Idris expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo and the state government for their support throughout the funeral observances.

The fidau prayer was attended by state executive council members, traditional rulers, and former Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada.
