Kogi LG Polls: Ododo Votes in Okene, Hails Peaceful Conduct

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has attributed the peaceful turnout and orderly conduct during Saturday’s local government elections to effective security arrangements established across the state.

Governor Ododo stated this after exercising his franchise at his polling unit in Upogoro, Okene Local Government Area, during the local council polls held across the 21 local government areas of the state on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Addressing newsmen shortly after voting, Ododo emphasized that adequate protection of lives and property remains a fundamental prerequisite for socio-economic stability and grassroots development.

He praised security personnel for maintaining law and order, charging the law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant throughout the collation and post-election phases.

Field reports indicated an orderly exercise across several local government areas, with electoral officers and materials from the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) arriving at most polling centers by 8:00 a.m.

In Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, voters turned out to participate under the supervision of joint security patrols comprising officers of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups.

Speaking after casting his vote at Oshobane Ward, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ogori/Magongo, Mr. Ezekiel Sunday Osiako, commended KOSIEC and the state executive leadership for ensuring a level playing field for participating political parties.

Similarly, the Technical Assistant to the Kogi State Ministry of Information and Communications, Mr. Ebenezer Adurodija, praised the commission at Eni Ward for the prompt distribution of sensitive materials and early commencement of voting.

In Okehi Local Government Area, the APC local party chairman commended KOSIEC and security authorities at Okaito/Usugwe Ward for sustaining orderliness, acknowledging the coordination of the Auditor-General for Local Government, Alhaji Siyaka Yakubu Adabenege, alongside local community leaders.
