Young table tennis players from Kogi State have won several medals for Nigeria at the African Youth Table Tennis Championship and African Cup held in Accra, Ghana.
At the African Youth Table Tennis Championship, Joseph Victor and Joseph Marvelous won gold in the U-15 Boys’ Doubles, while also teaming up with Samson Joshua and Lagos State’s Umar Ayoola to secure silver in the U-15 Boys’ Team Event.
Samson Joshua recorded further successes, winning bronze in the U-15 Boys’ Singles, bronze in the U-15 Boys’ Doubles with Umar Ayoola, and another bronze in the U-15 Mixed Doubles alongside Abia State’s Chinoye Okafor.
At the African Cup, Joshua added another bronze in the U-15 Boys’ Singles, while Ize Aziza Sezuo claimed bronze in the U-15 Girls’ Singles.
The Kogi coaching team, led by Coach Friday Abah, alongside the Chairman of the Kogi State Table Tennis Association, Dr. Shaibu D. Mohammed, received commendations for their financial and technical support in developing the athletes.
Stakeholders noted that the performance demonstrates the impact of grassroots sports investment, highlighting the players’ potential to compete on global platforms including the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
