One of the contenders for Kogi governorship in the last election, Murtala Ajaka has declared his intentions to contest the Kogi East senate ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ajaka who was the governorship flag bearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the last election, decamped to the APC after his loss to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Declaring his bid to join the race in a statement, Ajaka said he received countless calls and engagements with stakeholders across Kogi East and beyond.
He said his decision was based on these calls and counsels from respected elders from the region.
“In respect of the wishes of our people, in honour of the prevailing understanding among stakeholders, and in the overriding interest of peace, unity, and collective advancement, I have decided to answer this call.
“I will, therefore, offer myself to serve as the Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District.
“This decision is also firmly guided by my commitment to the stability, unity, and progress of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). It is equally driven by the need to further intensify our collective efforts to mobilize widespread support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ensuring the successful delivery of his mandate and consolidating the foundation for his re-election in 2027.
“During these consultations, I have engaged with critical stakeholders, and I remain committed to further necessary engagements. I look forward to deeper consultations, including with His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, as part of the ongoing process,” he declared.
