HYPPADEC Donates Boats, Life Jackets to Kogi

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has donated four fiberglass boats and essential life jackets to boost marine transportation and safety of residents in riverine areas in Kogi State.

The State Ministry of Transportation on Friday received the items at an official handover ceremony which took place at Muhammadu Buhari square in Lokoja.

The Acting State Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, Michael Ajayi Omeiza expressed the Commission’s enthusiasm for the delivery of these operational flying boats, each equipped with eight outboard motor engines.

He emphasized that this initiative is designed to strengthen inland water transportation and create safer waterways, thereby significantly enhancing transport infrastructure and positively impacting communities along the state’s waterways.

“This initiative aligns perfectly with your ministry’s objectives,” he stated. “We eagerly anticipate your continued support and additional partnerships to ensure the safety and integrity of the maritime sector in our state.”

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Atuluku Victor Levi, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to revitalizing the transportation sector. He hailed the delivery of the four fiberglass boats and life jackets as a monumental achievement in enhancing water transportation.

Levi emphasized that the Kogi State Ministry of Transportation, as the regulatory authority, will prioritize the intended purpose of these newly acquired assets. He assured stakeholders that the introduction of the flying boats would not compromise affordability, safety, or comfort, ultimately benefiting all residents of Kogi State. Under his leadership, he pledged that the standards and practices governing boat operations would serve as a benchmark for others in the marine sector.

On behalf of the State Government and relevant stakeholders, he extended heartfelt gratitude to N_HYPACDDEC for their support and collaboration, he extended gratitude to N_HYPACDDEC for this impactful initiative, urging for more collaborative efforts in the future.

In his goodwill message, Alh. Abdullahi Bala Yusuf, District Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, praised the initiative as both timely and appropriate. He utilized this opportunity to advocate for further initiatives from the State Government, the Commission, and other essential stakeholders.

The official commissioning of the boats and the handover of life jackets, marks a pivotal moment for the Kogi State Ministry of Transportation and the maritime sector as a whole.
