The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) Professor Olayemi Akinwumi has said the university has undergone a technological transformation with the adoption of an E-Learning Policy for all its programmes.
Akinwumi made this known during a formal adoption of the Blended E-Learning policy for enhancing the teaching and learning experience for both students and faculty held at the Directorate of E-Learning in Lokoja.
According to the VC, “The university is committed to academic excellence through the integration of technology in education. Saying, “The world of education is evolving rapidly, and institutions that embrace digital learning stand at the forefront of academic innovation.”
The VC emphasized that the new policy aims to enhance learning experiences, expand accessibility, improve efficiency, and strengthen technological skills among students and staff”
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed optimism about how Blended E-Learning would revolutionize education delivery at FUL.
“By incorporating multimedia resources, discussion forums, and online assessments, students will have opportunities to engage with course materials in dynamic ways while enjoying the flexibility to learn at their own pace,” he said.
“To support this initiative, the university administration has committed to investing in technological infrastructure that ensures reliable access to online learning resources for both students and lecturers. We must work together to ensure that Blended E-Learning becomes a defining feature of our academic excellence.”
He stressed that the initiative was expected to have significant implications for the university community.
“Beyond improving teaching and learning experiences, it aims to equip students with essential 21st-century skills vital in today’s knowledge-driven economy.”
Following the declaration, the Directorate organized an extensive training session for staff on the Learning Management System (LMS). Led by the Director of E-Learning, Prof. Musa Adeku Ibrahim, the training was designed to equip faculty members with essential skills for effective course delivery using digital platforms.
Ibrahim acknowledged previous efforts to introduce the LMS but stressed the importance of ongoing capacity-building.
“These past sessions have laid a strong foundation, but we recognize the need for continued training to ensure all academic staff can effectively utilize the platform,” he noted.
The training covered key areas including platform navigation, course content upload, student engagement features, and technical support. Participants were encouraged to bring their laptops for hands-on practice, with stable internet access provided to facilitate a smooth learning experience.”
Ibrahim encouraged participants to embrace the opportunity to strengthen their digital capabilities and contribute to the advancement of e-learning at Federal University Lokoja.
